For All Ya’ll Eagles Out There…
Please offer a prayer of thanksgiving to our God. Because we don’t realize how blessed we are. Holding a U.S. Passport gives us so much freedom and leverage in today’s world.
This entry is fueled by my heartbreak that my dear STINT sister Sunny may not be able to go to our retreat in Thailand because she holds Korean citizenship. Please pray for her…let me tell you her story and maybe your heart will break too:
Sunny was born in Korea and lived there until junior high. That’s when she moved to the States and began the grueling journey on what is known as being labeled as a “FOB.” Regardless, our bright and sunny Sunny got herself comfortable in America, worked her way into Cal State Northridge and even graduated–imagine, for those of us who struggle with writing papers even when our native tongue is English, what it’s like for people whose English is their second language. Regardless. Sometime ago, she and her family began the process by which they can obtain a green card, or become permanent U.S. residents.
However, Sunny has a passion for lost souls. Sunny loves missions, she loves Japan. And so, this summer, in departing for missions, she forfeited her ticket to becoming a U.S. resident, leaving her friends, family, and the place she has come to call home, potentially forever. Because of her decision to follow Jesus without looking back, she was unable to go to Vision Conference in Los Angeles this past winter. And maybe she can’t even go to Thailand, where she’ll be able to meet and be encouraged by old friends and partners in ministry from LA.
So this is what we’re gonna do:
1) Pray
2) Pack, buy a bus ticket to the airport, and take the 1-hour ride in the faith that she can leave Japan.
3) Pray
4) Get on the plane in the faith that once we get there, Thailand won’t send her back.
5) Pray some more.
