Genie in Japan

I Don’t Know What To Write About

At this time, I should be writing my already-late monthly newsletter for my supporters.  But so much has happened this past month, I don’t know where to start so I’ll just barf it all out onto Xanga and pick out the nice chunks for the newsletter.  How does that sound to you?!

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day.  I went to Universal Studios Japan with some of our students and we had some good fun, made some good memories, and were very exhausted–it rained all day.

Two days before that, I went snowboarding in Gifu with church friends.  Wow, it had been three years since I last went boarding and I felt so privileged to be able to enjoy the nearly-empty slopes with new friends–Ponga is the crazy-wild-Filipino-Los-Angeleno-missionary at our church; he’s married to Kotoko, a Japanese beauty.  Chie is the same age as me and has been going to church with her mom since childhood.  She taught me some new Japanese words and phrases, and also shared with me her desire to receive love and affection from her parents as well as a friend to have “man-to-mans” with–to talk, share life, and study the Word together. So, I’m praying about that right now…Shota is a skiing-surfing-snowboarding-living-breathing-testimony of the wild ways God works.  He accepted Christ a few years ago in Australia, where he lived with beach bums and hippies for three years to just surf on the Gold Coast.  He received a Bible from his hippie friend and pot-dealer, began seeking the purpose for his life, and set out for a retreat in the Australian outback, just him, his Bible, and his guitar.   When he needed money, he worked as a fruit-picker in New Zealand and upon reading the words, “You shall honor your father and mother,” he was convicted to return to Japan and renew his relationship with his already Christian family.   Now, he teaches an introductory Bible Study at church.  God is so cool.

That was long, so I think that’s enough for now. More to come. See you later~
