Dude, I’m Korean.
Today we had our weekly staff meeting, but it was a pretty important–lots of changes are happening this semester and I’m not so sure how I feel about it yet. For one thing, we won’t be having any staff at Osaka U. STINTers have just been upgraded to staff-status. Exciting and scary at the same time.
One thing’s for sure, we’re all on fire to share the Gospel. Like, wearing our shoes down until they have holes in them just walking walking walking around campus until they’ve all heard.
This morning we watched a short video clip about Japan–a film crew went around asking young people if they’ve heard of Jesus and most said no, not really. Crazy, huh? Living in America, you just know who Jesus is by default. But that’s not the case in Japan. Another thing that really got me thinking (for once) was the history between Korea and Japan. The video clip we watched showed all these brutal pictures of Japanese war crimes against Koreans, of Koreans burning Japanese flags (recently), etc.
And the thing that really confused me was me–of all things, the first emotion that boiled over was frustration with the Korean community. Like, dude–that was years ago. Just let it go man. All those people who did bad things, yeah, they were wrong, they were bad, but that entire generation is dead. And what are you pissed about anyway? No one ever hurt you. Maybe your grandparents. Or great grandparents. But what reason do you have to go and burn a Japanese flag? Just let it go dude. You call yourself a Christian? You’re just a hater.
I’m a hater too. I really don’t understand why I hate on Koreans so much.
So I’m going to go back to UCLA and learn my language, learn my history, learn my heritage. I need to stop hating. Seriously. Don’t be a hater.
